Chapter 5: Wester Ross

The blogpost. This month was a story of storm, still, and precious little in between. Llinos joined me for Christmas in Coigach (though storms undid our plans to eat Christmas dinner on uninhabited Eilean a’ Chleirich). You’ll have seablindness by the time you get through these – I put lots of photos in here just because the astounding violence of these conditions provided such insight into the ocean this project’s about. The journey itself was a change of pace – an exploration of the histories of mountain zones between Ullapool and Shieldaig. While I wandered through Dundonnell & Fisherfield, conditions were as calm as I’ve ever known them. The icy hills (and the nights in the sleeping bag on them) were as perfect as snowless winter hills can be. Click on the thumbnails for bigger pics.
